MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
- The fortnightly meeting of the Council was held hist evening, when there were present —His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Familton, Gibbs, Headland, Humphrey, Mainland, Procter and Spence. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. It was decided to inform Messrs. J. and T. Meek that in future the coal must be obtained from the Coalpit Heath Company's mine, and be screened before shipment.
was granted to Mr. Charles Kearns to ' erect a building on section 4, block XXI. • Mr. J. S. Anderson's tender for the supplying of kerosene, &c, for six months, as follows: —Kerosene (Devoe's), 2s 2d; chimneys, per dozen, 9s; wicks, per dozen, 2s, was accepted. Tenders for fencing at the Waterworks, ranging from 6s 9d to 9s per chain,, were opened, and the Engineer was empowered to accept tendets at 6s 9d. The Public Works Committee reported that instructions had been given to the Engineer to prepare plans for the several works referred to the Committee for consideration. The Engineer was directed to see that the channels were swept before 9 a.m. It was decided to place a lamp at the corner of Avon and Tyne streets. Accounts were passed as follow : •.General account, L4OO 16s lOd ; Reserves Account, Ll2 10s; Gasworks, L 134 18s Set; Waterworks, L 1417 15s lOd. Tihe Council then rose.
