NAPIER AND ITS BREAKWATER.

A crowded public meeting was held last night (the Mayor in the chair), for the purpose of eonskiermg certain resolutions to be introduced in a memorial for pre-senlaii-')i tii Harbor Board, ill favor Napier. Tiie following resolutions were carried " That of Napier failure to fulfil the oxfeFtatHiPieWout when they wore begun, are »?)y this meeting with much disappointment ; and further, this meeting is of opinion that there should be no more public money expended on the extension of the said^arks." (Prolonged cheers.) "That iii u ihc opinion of this meeting t'Ue cuniineKjj and shipping business oAhS port, nre'sentejjid prospective, call for-jjffi- 're and that immediate action lie-taken Tortile purpose of carrvinf out inorfe permanent works. 4i That, to meet 'ius present pressing want it is desirab.. .-1 consider the adoption oi Mr. M'Grcgor's plan for a brcaicwater, prepared by him in 1873, and to invite that gentleman to visit Napier, for the Diirpose ot making a further inspection !>f the roadstead/' " That the Chairman of this meeting be authorised to present to the Harbor Board a petition embodying these resolutions, with a request to the Board to take the subject into earnest consideration at an early date." Messrs. Dransiield, Sutton, De Lautour, and Ellis were amongst the speakers who addressed the meeting.
