ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

.— TO THE KDITOIt OF THE EVEXINC MAIL. Sir, —In your p;iper of tlie 11th I find the following statement as coming from the Hon. Mr. Macandrew re the railway station, Oamaru :—" When here last December with Mr. Conyers, he was then under the impression that the site near the Presbyterian Church was the most suitable and the most economical, and he thought the plans were being prepared for a site there. It was not till the other day when he met Mr. Steward in Dunedin tlmt lie became aware of the fact that steps were being taken to have to have the station elsewhere. Mr. Steward had informed him, &c." Sow, what I want to know is this—Are we blessed with having in our midst the Hon. Mr. Macandrew's superior Minister for Railways I and is it a fact that when the Minister for Railways gives orders a gentleman of higher authority can come and countermand them ? and does it depend on chance and the good fortune of meeting Mr. Steward that he becomes aware of plans being prepared for a railway station on another site I and, as a conclusion, does it seem fair to the people of Oamaru that Mr. Steward should have private negotiations about the said site without even saying " by your leave" to the citizens over whom he presides as Worshipful Mayor. —I am, &c., Looker-On.
