HARBOR BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Board was held to-day at the Harbor Chambers. There were present—Messrs. Sumpter (chairman), Steward, Meek, Lemon, and Borrie. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Standing Committee recommended that the debentures for the new loan should be drawn in the same manner as for the previous loans, with the necessary alterations ; and that the Government be requested to connect the railway sidings in Harbor-street with the mainline. The report was adopted. A letter from the Commissioner of Railways, with reference to taking up and relaying the permanent way of the Harbor Board line, was read. The SubCommittee reported that the letter had been sent to the Minister of Public Works for consideration, with the matters raised by the deputation which waited upon him on his visit to Oamaru. Mr. James Mills, Manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, wrote asking that the charges on the Hawea on her recent pleasure trip to Oamaru might be waived. The Board decided not to accede to the request. A letter from Mr. W. Booth, Secretary to the Oamaru Stone Company, was read, asking for permission to stack stone on the wharf, and asking the Board to cUst charge stone from trucks on to the wharf, and afterwards ship it, without increasing the charges. It was decided to reply that the Board regretted that it would not be practicable, with present applianees, to comply with the request contained in the letter.

The Board then proceeded to make arrangements for the forthcoming elections. A letter was read from Messrs Hislop and Creagh, covering an opinion from the Hon. Attorney-General, to the

effect that the duty of carrying out the election of the new. Board devolved upon the Harbor Board. It was resolved That Mr. Forrester be apponited Returning Officer for: the forthcoming Board election, and that he be requested to issue all necessary notices and take all necessary proceedings, under the advise -of Messrs. Hislop and Creagh. Accounts to the amount of L 469 3a 3d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned
