The presentation of prices to the pupil's attending Mr. Anstead's Windsor House School took place yesterday. Great interest was taken in the proceedings. Tin's evening one of the most pleasing entertainments that has been placed before a Oamaru audience for some time will be given in the Volunteer Hall by the Stewart Famil} - . The entertainment is styled " Rainbow Revels a Medley of Mirth, Music, Mischief, and Mimicvy," and, having had the pleasure of witnessing its performance in Dunedin, Ave can with confidence recommend all who enjoy a good evening's highly diversified amusement to pay the Volunteer Hall a visit.

As will have been observed by an advertisement which appeared in our columns for the past few days, the Royal Hotel has changed hands, Mr. J. D. Kett having bocome the new host of this favorite hostelry. Mr. Kett has for some three years been landlord of the Criterion Hotel, Palmerston, where he has obtained the reputation of being a popular host and "a jolly good feb low." \Xo have no doubt that under his management the Royal Hotel will continue to flourish.

There was only a moderate attendance at the final performance last night of the Baker and Farron Combination. "Lisa Eecles'' constituted tlie programme, but as played last evening, we cannot say much in its jiraisc, for, though Messrs. Baker and Farron created great amusement as usual in their Dutch and Irish characters, the piece is utterly devoid of dramatic interest, being merely a conglomeration of events strung together by the slenderest thread of a plot, The name of the dramatist is not made known, but whoever he may be, he lias little to be proud of in having been the author of one of the most clumsily thrown together! pieces that wo have ever seen placed upon the Colonial boards, and that is saying a great deal. The proper scenery was again made juainfully apparent, and once more demonstrated the necessity for having a decent place of amusement if the drama is to find a home in Oamaru. Mr. Farron, who was especially funny throughout the performance, made some very pointed allusions to the building, saying very plainly that it was a disgrace to the community—a remark which was greeted with vociferous applause from the audience.

I Our attention has been called to the fact that in the reports of the Dunedin papers no notice has been taken of the presence at the funeral of the late Sir John Richardson of representatives from the Volunteer corps of this district. The names of those present ■were as follows : —Lieut. Morris, Sergfc. King, and Vol. Harding (No. 1 Company, Oamaru) ; Volunteers Ross and Gillies (Otepopo Company) ; Capt. Murcott, Sergt. Harris, Volunteers W. Stewart, H. T. Murcott, and A. M'Williams (Hampden Company).
