WELLINGTON". November 22. It is stated that a movement is on foot for the establishment of a new Loan and Investment Co. on a simiiar basis to the present Wellington' Trust. Loan, and Investment Co., with a proposed capital of LIOO,OOO. The operations of the Association would be confined chiefly to the Wellington Provincial District.

The Chronicle says, regarding the constructing of the I-iutt-Foxton railway : —lt is the intention of the Minister for Public Works to commence it at once, and action in that direction will be taken before the end of the year. Scoured has fallen Id to lid per lb, and washed clothing has declined Id since the close of last sales. The principal advance has been in medium and inferior washed. An extensive limestone cave has been discovered near White Cliffs, between Westport and Reefton. An explorer described it as a magnificent sight when illuminated. A creek traverses the cave. Private information from Lyell says all the Reefton quartz miners are passing through the township en route, for Wangapeka, where a rich reef has been discovered.
