MEETINGS.
OAMARU HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held last evening, when there were present—Messrs. T. H. Brown (President, in the chair), Shrimski, Montagu, l'atevson, Mainland, Townseiul, Morris, and Church (.Secretary).
The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and approved, a number of unimportant letters were read.
A letter from Mr. J. A. Barr, Secretary of the Dunedin Oarrick Club, offering to give a performance in Oamaru in aid of the Hospital funds, was read. It was resolved to forward to that gentleman a letter of thanks for the kind offer, but to intimate that, in consequence of the shortness of notice and the difficulty of obtaining a suitable place in which to hold the performance, the Committee could not see their way to accept the offer at present, but would be happy on some future occasion to avail themselves of the assistance of the Club.
The following report from the Visiting ('ommittee was read : " Oainarn, 1 Sth November. IS7S.
" Your Visiting ( 'ommittee have to report that t hey visited the Hospital this afternoon, and found everything going 011 quite satisfactorily.
They have to report that at present the Hospital is fully occupied, there being three female and twelve male path nts. " They recommend that steps be taken to partly furnish the new ward, this, in their opinion, being an absolute necessity. " During the recent gale the roof of the bath-room was carried away, and they accordingly recommend that the same be replaced as early as possible. " Your (.'ommittee suggest that a carriageway be formed in front of the Hospital door, to enable vehicles to enter inside the enclosure and drive up to the door. This suggestion, if carried out, will prove a great boon to accident patients more particularly.
" The thanks of the Committee are due to Mr. Clowes and to Mr. Shriinski for a kind contribution of illustrated papers. " There is now a man employed digging round the trees lately presented to the Institution. " Your Committee submit accounts aggregating L3l 'M 1 Id. "AI.K.X. Kkkk. " D. S. MoNTAor. " .Jamks I'atkkson." Mr. Shrimski, 011 behalf of Mrs. Shrimski, oil'ered to supply the six beds required for the new ward, and it was resolved that the Secretary should forward to Mrs. Shriinski a letter of thanks for her kindness and handsome present.
The Yisiting Committee, in conjunction with Mr. Shrimski, were empowered to complete the furnishing of the new ward. The report of the Building ('ommittee was read, in which it was mentioned that ill". Lemon, architect i'or the new building, bad kindly oil'ered to present the Hospital with commission on the work, amounting to LIT Is. The report was adopted, and votes of thanks accorded to Mr. Lemon, for his handsome donation, and to the Building ( ommittee for the time and attention given by them to the work.
Accounts amounting to 1.113 13s 11(1. including payments to contractors for the new buildings, were passed for payment. It w:ts resolved to place Mr. Lemon's name on the list of Honorary Lite (.'overnors of tin- Institution. Several other matters of a routine nature having been attended to. the mooting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. a
NORTH OTACO RIFLK ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the? Committee of this Association Mas held last evening, for the purpose of selecting a team to tire in the match against the Otago Association on the 80th inst. There was a good attendance of members. and the Vice-President (Mr. I'eattie) occupied the chair. Before proceeding with tile special business, the prizes for the late monthly competition "Were apportioned as follows :—lst, 21s : 2nd. llis : 3rd, )2s Gd ; 4th. 10s: . r >ih, 7s (id : Oth. "w. It. was decided that the ranges for December lie fixed at 200 yds. ~'Oo yds, and 000 yards, with the usual conditions : and that the match should commence at .">.30 a.m. sharp. A letter was read from Sub-Lieut. Young. Hampden, informing the Committee that owing to the railway having encroached on the local range it had been found impracticable to lire at 000 yds, and the competitors at that place had therefore retired from the contest. The Secretary was directed to reply to the letter, returning the amount of entry money.
The team to fire in the forth-coming match was selected as follows : —Captain M.'Corkindale, C.C. (captain): Artillery--Sergt.-Major Creagh : No. 1 Company— Lieut. Headland, Sub-Lieut. Morris, ColorSergt. King, Vols. R. Harding, Clark, and Russell ; No. 3 Company (Otepopo)—Sergt. J. W. Paterson and Corpl. Gillies ; Private members—Messrs. R. L. Rule and W. Harbridge. Emergency men—Captain Morton, Y.A., Vol. Hardy, No. 1, and Gunner Little. Scorer—Mr. E. A. Atkinson.
The Otago Association will be represented by the following members : —Captain Wilson (captain), Sub-Lieut. Miller, Sergts. Coxhead, Kennedy, and Richardson, P.O. Jack, Vols. Smith, Coventry, Melville, T. Hutchison. G. Miller, and IX L. Christie.
The ranges are 200 yds, ->OO yds, and GOO yds—7 shots at each ; "Wimbledon targets ; any position : one sighting shot at each range.
The Otago Association's team will arrive in Oamaru on the previous evening, and will be met at the station by representatives of the Oamaru Association. At the conclusion of the match the visitors will be entertained at dinner, rnd will return to Dunodin by the afternoon train.
