SPECIAL CABLEGRAM.
[from our own correspondent. 1 Dunedin, October 21. The following cablegrams have been received by the Star : London, October 16. Bismarck's nephew has committed suicide. Turkey is impressed with the futility of further resistance to the united Powers, and has conceded the principal demands of the Cretans. October 17. The Ameer has invited the Russians to construct telegraphs throughout Afghanistan, connecting with the Russian lines. October IS. The Sultan is trying to arrange- the Afghanistan difficulty for the purpose of checking the Russian manoeuvring, and avoiding a conflict with England. The Sultan has written an amicable letter to the Ameer. October 19. The official enquiry into the failure of the Glasgow Bank shows deliberate and long..uiitinued fraud.
