A public meeting wag field in the school oxi Thursday, 17th inst.'; to consider the action of the'Waitaki County Council' in suddenly removing the polling place for the forthcoming pguffty (Otekaike riding) from Livingstpne to Otekaike Stptijan ; tjj'us placing it 19 miles beyond'its' original posj; tion, to the very great inconvenience of a number of the electors. A telegraphic message was despatched to S.'E. Shrimski, Esq., member of the Assembly for the district, followed by a letter containing fuller details, asking him to urge on the Government to use their power in arresting the election, as 'contemplated, .by tlie Council. The question was raised as to the desirableness of detachipg the Otekaike riding from tlie' Waitaki ■County and annexing it to that of Maniototo; whose members appear tp be more cosmo-
politan in their tendencies, and who would gladly welcome the invincible Livingstonians together*.with their rich mineral lands.
