DUNEDIN. October 4. Accounts from Southland say that it will take a month to repair the damage to the Winton-Kingston line. The Oreti 'has gone down considerably. The bridges at Wallacetown and Makerewa are-stand-ing all right, but the approaches- .are damaged considerably. At JacbTJ's River, the people had to take refuge on houses. Rivertou lias suffered very littlq. The New River has gone down considerably and coach . traffic with and Riverton is resumed. Collings, a settled on the.New Kiver Flat, is missing. Ai Kaitangata the wnter is subsiding,,but the back current continues to wash away the road line. Several houses have fallen down. The water is nearly a foot deep in the houses. At Roxburgh communication is re-established by boats. Ac- j counts this morning from Tapanui and j Beaumont say that the river is receding. The township of Kelso is considerably underwater. At Miller's Flat yesterday there was seven feet of water in Nicholson's hotel, and the residents of the fiatand Etterick left their houses and took to' the terrace. There were several feet of water in Mrs. Patrick's hotel three miles ■ below Ettrick. " .......... The Suez mail is at King George's Sound. Walsh, the., Waikawa murderer, is committed for trial, and will probably be tried at Dune'din. The House adjourned this morning to enable the. Government to consider their position. It is a very general opinion that there will be a dissolution.
