ANNUAL WALKING SHOW OF ENTIRES.
The annual walking shGW of entire horses, under the auspices of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, came off to-day. Much to the disappointment of farmers and others who take an interest in the exhibition, rain came on last evening, continuing more or less during the night, and falling heavily this morning. Our town was therefore not nearly so thronged with country visitors as it would have been had Jupiter Pluvins otherwise willed it. The entries made with the Secretary up to last night are as follow : Drauoiit Entires. Mr' Robert M'Auly's Renfrew Jock, imported from Victoria. Mr Edward Menlove's Prfrjee Alfred, bred at Windsor Park. . Mr Edward MerJcve's Prince Charlie, imported from Scotland Air John Donaldson's Young Banker, imported from Scotland. Mr John Donaldson's Sir Colin Campbell, Taieri bred. Messrs Fleming' and Hedley's Voting Vanquisher, imporred from Scotland. Mr Kennedy Wylie's Earl of Paisley, N'ew Zealand bred. .Air Daniel M'Gregor's Prince Royal, Taieri bred. Mr Andrew Clydesdale's Heather .look, imported. Mr Thomas Mee's Prince Charlie, Taieri bred Bi, on Entires.
Mr It. Richardson's Hibernian, imported from Australia.
Mr- Alex. C. Paterson's Pertobe, imported from Australia,
Ur Edward D.evine's Ringleader, imported from Australia.
Owina to the uncertain and threatening I appearance of the weather, a number o£ tue j Committee decided this forenoon that it would be unadvisable to use the Show i Ground, and it was fixed that the horses ; should parade the "Blocks" finally drawing i up on the railway reserve in front of the j iS'oythern Hotel. The wea-ther cleaned up beautifully about 2. o'clock, and a large con-course-assembled to.witness the exhibition. All the horses entered except Mjr. M'Auley's Renfew Jock were present, and it was quite animating to see them marching round. As the Association award no prizes, and consequently appoint no judges, it would be invidious on our part to pronounce a verdict, but, of course, discussion on. the respective animals' merits was freely indulged in. In the draught class general opinion seemed divided between those magnificent specimens of the Clydesdale horse Young Vanquisher and You,ng Banker for premier position, whilst Prince Charlie, Heather Jock, Prince Royal and Prince Alfred came in for their share, of praise. In the thoroughbreds, Mr. Paterspn's Pertobe was generally admired, Ringleader and Hibernian having also a large number of votaries.. The show, on the whole, thust be pronounced a great success.
