Provisional Directors : Hon. H. J. Miller, M.L.C. John Reid, Esq., Elderslie Wm. Christie, Esq. Samuel Gibbs, Esq. Edward Menlove, Esq., Windsor Park J. W. Humphrey, Esq. (Messrs. Baili and Humphrey) G. S. Lintott, Esq. (Messrs. Lintott and Otterson) W. J. Steward, Esq., Mayor. Bankers: . The Colonial Bauk of New Zealand. Solicitor : Joseph < >'Meagher, Esq. Secretary : W. J. Smith, Esq. The object of this Company is to ErectBuildings suitable for a Public Hall and Corn Exchange. With this view the Provisional Directors have been in treaty for the purchase of that freehold property, Waitaki House, situate in Thames-street. The central position of this property is admirably adajjted for the purpose, and with the necessary improvements and additions would meet every possible requirement of the Company. It is proposed to erect upon the present vacant ground a Building of dimensions to seat 1000 people, and with every convenience for public entertainments ; also to provide a suitable room for the use of members oi the Corn Exchange and Chamber of Commerce, which would be supplied with the principal agricultural and commercial papers. The only building used for Public Entertainments, &c., viz., the Masonic Hall, is now being converted to other uses ; and in a rising town, such as Oamaru, the present proposal, iu addition to being a public boon, will doubtless prove a profitable investment. The present building, with a small outlay in the way of additions and alterations, could be utilised for shops, with an hotel adjoining, by which means an immediate revenue could be obtained. The revenue to be de l ived from the operations of the Company are thus estimated : Rent of Public Hall and Offices ... L 450 Corn Exchange—Members Subscriptions ... ... ... ... 150 of Hotel (guaranteed) ... ... 550 Re/ of Two Shops ... ... ... 300 £1,450 Purchase of Waitaki House Property—Buildings and Necessary Alterations Law and other Expense in formation of Company ... ... ... L 10,550 As soon as a sufficient number of Shares have been taken up, a meeting of the Shareholders will be called to appoint Permanent Directors, and consider other matters. Applications for Shares may be made either to the Colonial Bank or to 603 MR. W. J. SMITH.
