We understand that it is contemplated, on the occasion of the formal opening of the railway line from Christchurch to Dunedin, to entertain the Governor, &c,, to a collation in the good's shed. If this is to be so, surely the authorities ought to take immediate steps to till up the ugly lagoon of nasty ■water immediately in front of the building?. It is well that Oama.ru should, on this particular occasion, look her very best, so that all the visitors may be of Sir George Gray's opinion, and go back to their legislative duties with the decided conviction that O-imaru is fuiiy eutitkd to be called a " fair niaideu by the si-a." All such nuisances and blotches as above cn the appearance of our town should be removed, or at ieast mitigated, and we believe that the public would share our feeling, and be glad t.o se.e this done
