* WELLINGTON. August 22. It is intend"*! to bring one or two tons of D'Urville. Island ore to be smelted at, some local foundry, in the presence of all who wish to see the quality of the ore. «> CARTERTON. August 22. Charles Neilson and Karl Hansen were arrested last night, for having committed a murderous assault on Matthew Wild. They inflicted very dangerous scalp wounds five or six inches long. The doctor's report is unfavorable. August 23. It is said that the missing man Cross and his ci'ild, who disappeared so mysteriously from Sydenham on Monday, have turned up safe at Wellington. There was a meeting of the Cathedral Guild last evening, when it was stated that a proposal had been made that one of the transept columns in the Cathedral should be erected as a memorial to B'shop Selwyn. It would probably cost LIOOO. The inmates of the Old Men's Refuge at Selwyn, were to-day removed to their new quarters at Ashburton.
