SPECIAL CABLEGRAM
[from our own correspondent.] Dunedin, August 17. The following cablegrams appear in the Dunedin Star :
London, August 15. In view of the Austrian occupation of Herzegovina, an agitation has been commenced in Italy for its rectification. The frontier of Albania has been offered to Italy., but she refuses, demanding Trieste and the Istrian Peninsula. The Turkish officials are unable to maintain order. On account of the Christians there being threatened with two Turkish men-of-war, the English and French gunboats entered the harbor to prevent an outbreak.
Bismarck has sent an ultimatum that Turkey must comply with the Berlin treaty, and withdraw support from the Busman insurgi-nts. Turkey is yielding. August 16. The Queen in her speech at the prorogation, said that the peace was satisfactory, and likely to be durable. Turkish independence is secured against aggression. Hard fighting at Bosnia still continues. Sydney, August 16. The Imperial Government is in favor of the establishment of a large arsenal in an inland town of this Colony, as the only means of an effective Australian defence.
