POLITICAL ITEMS.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, August 12.
It is rumored that an Opposition is in course of formation, with Major Atkinson as leader. The latest converts are reported to be Messrs. Shriniski and Evans Brown. The reasons assigned are objections to the laud tax. Mr. George McLean and the H<>n. Mat hew Holmes are jubilant. The Government measures will'be pushed forward with expedition, and if the opposition is successful, which is doubtful, there will be a dissolution.
