THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO BE REFORMED.
(TF.K I'RESH AGKNCV.) Wellington. August (i. Mr. Curtis gives notice that he will move the following resolutions : —l. That the section of the Constitution Act giving his Excellency the Governor the power to nominate members of the Legislative Council be repealed. 2. That the number of members of the Legislative Council be one-half that of the House of Representatives., o. Thai vacancies in the Legislative Council be filled by persons elected by a ballot of the House ot Representatives. 4. That if any Bill be passed by the House and objected to by the Council in two successive sessions, the House may require that the Council and the House sit together for thp consideration of such Bill, and that if a majority of two-thirds of the united body be in favor of the Bill it shall be deemed to have passed both Houses. ~>. That a similar provision be made when the HoiiS'' twice rejects a Bill passed by the Council.
