NEWS FROM NEW CALEDONIA.

(per press agency.) Noumea, June 29. The native revolt took place in the districts on Onrail and Boulapari, distant respectively 60 and J)0 mijes from here, on the 25th inst. The first intimation of the outburst whioh reached Noumea wa3 a report that five gendarmes on guard at Fona River, near Ourai, had been attacked and murdered ; next, that a murderous assault had been made upon '' Qojons," farmers, and every white resident in the neighborhood of Ourai. The Government immediately telegraphed fpr troops t»i be despatched to the scene of the conflict. On the following day news was received that the environs of Ourai were in flames. Twenty-one whites are known to have been massacred. The revolt is spreading towards Boulapari, 30 miles iii-ar Noumea. On the 2?th, intellii genr« came of a massacre of ■' Colons" j and ...her residents of Bonlapari and the 'stir.-unding districts, and the fugitives beg-.n'to arrive in town. The excitement ; was intense, verging during the day on a pa: ij. The mounted volunteers, armed by Government, arrived to find the corps;.-;: of the police lying in every direction, cut a«id hacked horribly, family after family found mui'dei'od i;j heaps—no mercy ' having been shown. wonjjn, and children, treacherously surprised, were alike vjptims, The Canada natives are taking up arms against the revolted tribe, headed by their great chiefs Gelimah and Kaka. Military, gendarmes, and a large number of armed civilians are now in pursuit., and 150 friendly natives are aiding to surround the rebels. News from Boulapari states phat the natives made an attack on a band of convicts, seeing them guarded by only four sajlorg. Thp nonvicts were, however, all brought in except one, who was killed. The sailors killed eight of the natives. Information has been received of the utter destruction of a large village by our men. Eugene, a friendly chief of the Paita district, has captured six revolted natives and delivered them to the military, by whom they were executed. 7 July 5.

There is no extension pf the revolt. The Kauakas are being gradually hemmed in on all sides. A large military camp is to be formed at Boulapari. Noumea is now perfectly calm. July 7.

The latest news is, that yesterday 84 houses belonging to the rebel natives had been burnt near Boulapari. Some captive? were taken and executed. The names of nearly J.OO victims of the savages are giyen.

[Boulapari is a large village, 35 miles from Noumea; and Ourai, a small village 60 miles from Noumea. Both places are situated on the west coaat of the island, and Boulapari is settled by "Colons" English and French. " Colons" is simply French for settlers not being under the surveillance of the French authorities. Kanala is on the east coast of Jjew (Caledonia, parallel with Ourai, and distant 49 kilometres (about 37 miles). A good road is made across the island from Kanala to Ourai, and thence on the way to Noumea a good

carriage road ; the telegraph line runs through the island, with stations at Boulapari, Ourai, Kanala, and Bourai, another village on the west coast a day's journey further north than .Ourai, where the female Communists are located. So that by this time the particular tribe who have revolted will have been exterminated; It is feared that, the English residents known to be residing at Boulapari, are numbered among the victims. All the Kanakas not belonging to the particular district of the revolt will assist in the slaughter.- Tomahawks and.chassepots in the hands of the marine infantry in a clear country will soon do the work of extermination.—Ed.
