[from our own CORRESPONDENT. ] DUNEDIN. July 22. TliO Hop. S. Chapman has written to the Chamber of Gommprce on the subject of rates charged to passengers on the railway. He points out that in this Colony, as contrasted with Victoria and other places, we have maximum rates and minimum speed, and suggests that the fares should be reduced to twopence per. mile first-class, and one penny for secondclass.

At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-morrow, .1 resolution will be submitted that the Chamber are of opinion that through passengers should have the right of breaking the journey at any station and proceeding by next train on the same day; also, that greater facilities should be granted for the purchase of railway tickets, Louis Morris, who gave himself out as a shipwrecked mariner, has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment for vagrancy.
