THE MAYORAL ELECTION.

Tho polling for the choice of a Chief Magistrate for the town, for the ensuing year, took place to-day, and created a considerable amount of excitement amongst a certain section of the community during the early part of the day. At mid-day things assumed a quieter aspect, and opinions were freely expressed that chu" race was over, and. tlv.ifc Mr, Siteward would bo elected by a large majority. Both Committees worked very hard to bring voters to the various polling booths, and numerous cabs were busily employed running from one end of the town to the other, bringing to the poll ratepayers who did not appear to care to vote, as no great principle was to he decided by the contest.
