Toe applications to Mr. HEriKETH for female servants are, at this season, so numerous that it i 3 quite impossible to grant them all. That there is room in this district for hundreds of respectable, useful female servants there can be no doubt, and the sooner representations are made to the Immigration Department with the view of filling Ihuhurius which at present presses so heavily on people with families, the better. Not only is there not a suilicient number of domestic servants in this district at the f>resent time to meet the wants of employers of such labor, but the majority of such fis we have are of a most inferior description. Various are their qualifications for the positions that they essay to occupy. In some, laziness i* in the ascendency; in others, impudence ; *»id in others, immorality ; whilst a very respexsiabje number possess these three peculiarities in addi- 1 tion to a host ot others equally undesi-j rable. This is what heads of families are supposed to encourage by paying L3O and upwards per year. In numerous instances, no nooner does a servant enter the doors of her employer fljan the relative positions of mistress and maid are reversed, and what is in error termed a l - slavey," whilst professing to be subservient jn everytliing, does just what she likea.
