At the Upper Hint this morning, while ;i teamster named Mabley was driving a team of three horses towards the railway they broke away from him, and got on to tlie line, galloping in front of the Kaitoki ballast engine. They were run into by the engine, and two of the horses wore killed outright, and the third was so badly injured that it had to be shot. o .AUCKLAND. July 13. An old "ffencler named Crowe has been arrested, charged with murdering another man of bud repute, named Black. _ Both men were at a house of ill-fame in the suburb of Ar---.li Hill, when a fight occurred, in which Crowe was worsted. Crowe afterwards came behind Black, while talking with the women, and struck him a heavy blow with the billhook, the weapon sticking in his skull. The wounded man was afterwards removed to the hospital, where his deposition was taken. There is no hope of his recovery. Mr. MacMmn addressed the electors at Te Awamutu Last night, when a vote of confidence was carried by 22 to 4. July 15. • There was a heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. Tliere are seven and a half inches' of water on the road to lieefton, which i 3 nearly impassable, §oine dis : satisfaction is felt against the Public Works Department for delaying the building of the Ohauko stream. The present effect is, that in the Lyell district the people are almost starved out through the stoppage of supplies en route.
