July 5. At. a meeting held to-dav it was resolved to take steps for the construction of a railway line down the Peninsula side of Dunedin harbor. On the cases Macassej' v, B.eed and Reed v. Macfissey being called this morning, the Attorney-General said that he appeared, not as a counsel, but as a friend of both parties, and had to state that, through the intervention of friends, it had been agreed to withdraw both inform r . tions. He asked, therefore, that $1 J, ■ should be withdrawn, which was uone accordingly. The Evening Age has been served with a writ for LIOOO damages, at the instance of a money-lender named Benjamin, in consequence of remarks made by that paper on a case which recently came before the Court.
