The judge's charge merely dealt -with the calendar, 'and congratulated the jury on having obtained a new courthouse. George Murdoch, for larceny, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The Grand Jury threw out the bill against Moreur, for an vinnatural offence, and Eddinaton,, for rape. South pleaded guilty to larceny, and was remanded for sentence. Alfred Brown was acquitted. There is considerable excitement over the election, and the contest will be a very close one. The customs revenue shows a falling off during the June quarter of L 10,310. It is stated that Judge Bathgate was offered, and the Wellington district, judgeship at a higher salary. The Herald and Star severely condemn I the Law Society's resolution.
