SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.

[from our own correspondent.]

DUNEDIjST. May 2S. The Duncdin School Committee are at loggerheads with the Education Board. The latter claim that with them rest all the appointments, and, while they are willing to work with the Committees as far as possible, they refuse to submit certificates to the inspection and criticism of Committees. The Board is taking up the position that the recommendation of a candidate carries with it a certificate of competency. Last week, they notified the Committee of the appointment of two masters to one of the Dunedin schools, The Committee claim that the consultation in clause 4-7 means that they are to be consulted in all matters relating to the schools under their charge before the Board decides upon taking any steps in relation to them. To-day, they sent a strongly-worded letter to the Board, and carried a resolution to the effect that the Board had exceeded their powers, and intimating that the Committee will take steps to prevent the appointees entering upon their duties. The Committee intend applying to the Supreme Court for an injunction if necessary. May 20. Blyth, the commercial traveller, who was charged with embezzlement, has bolted to Melbourne. The City Bench this morning estreated his recognisances. The Education Board has granted twothirds of the cost of repairs (L 150) incurred by the late Oamaru School Committee, and has also agreed to allow the Clerk of Works to supervise the erection of the new school buildings. Mr. Steward pressed the" want of repairs to the Rectory upon the Board, but it decided to postpone consideration of the matter.
