May 23. The Post says it understands that aftei the close of the present financial year, the Government propose to charge the whole cost of administration upon the ordinary revenue of the Colony. Tt is stated that the Government intend adopting a system of delayed telegrams at cheap rates ; the charge is expected to bt half the present rate. It is expected that the detention of these messages until evening will lessen the pressure on private work during day hours. The Post says the total ordinary revenue is estimated to produce L 150,000 over the estimate for the year; this will reduce the deficiency to L 900,000, against which it will have Co set a saving of LIOO,OOO, arising from departmental reductions and unexpected money voted by the House for deferent works, The Government Gazette issued this evening, contains a notification oi Oapt. Maling's resignation or the. oiftce of Private Secretary to. tiie Governor, A meeting of shareholders in the West Wanganui Goal Prospecting Company was held this evening, when it was decided to issue a prospectus for forming a company, with a capital of X.so,oiK>, in Lo shares. Is U proposed to obtain powerful machines and purchase one or move powerful oolliers. Some of the principal business men in the city are connected with the scheme, and a very influential directorate has been appointed. It is understood that the Government, have decided to remove the custom-house and telegraph and post-otfice from the block now known as custom-houao block, to a new site on the reclaimed land, when the sites at present in occupation will bo sold. Some time, however, will elapse before t!»6 removal of the above offices.
