The Russian Army still remains at San Stefano, and the British squadron is at Constantinople. The intensity of ill-feeling between'the Porte and the .Russian commander-in-chief, respecting the evacuation of the fortresses is increasing. St. Petersburg!!, May 15.
The Russian Ambassador at London Emperor's decision. On his return he remains here until next week to receive the will call at Berlin and open with London negociations of the utmost importance. Ho has brought no written proposals, but merely explains the views ot the British Government. May 14. A semi-official note published here advocates the following as the solution for preserving the vitality of Turkey ministrative autonomy of the Christian population as a tributary to the Porte and giving Bosnia to Austria. No clue has yet been discovered as to the cause of the attempted assassination of the Emperor by a Socialist at Leipsig" London, May 15.

The Russian agents arc negotiating the purchase of ships in the United States suitable for privateers. Negotiations are proceeding between the Blackburn and other operatives. Serious riots have occurred amongst the strikers at Blackburn. The military has been called out.
A destructive earthquake has occurred at Venezuela. Six hundred persons were killed.
Vienna, May 15. At yesterday's sitting of the Hungarian Chamber of Deputies, there was a debate on the Eastern Question, when the President of the Hungarian Ministry said that the Government had lately found it necessary to take further precautions for the conservation of the Austrian-Hungarian interests, and had also strengthened her troops on the northern, southern, and eastern frontiers.
DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. (RENTER'S TELEGRAMS, PER I'REBK AGENCY.) Sydney, May 18. The Governor has received a despatch from the Secretary of State, informing him that the English Government has no intention of proposing to Parliament the annexation of the New Hebrides. The Government will prorogue Parliament on Tuesday.
The Easby sailed to-day. Melbourne, May IS. The Cable Conference has concluded. The result includes the Governor's proposal for the duplication of the cable between Singapore and Port Darwin, and also a second cable from Penang to Singapore. The subsidy to be L 32.000 annually, paid rateably by the Colonies, according to population. Press rates are to be reduced one fourth, Government messages one half. New Zealand and Tasmania get no advantage from the reduction in cable rates. Nothing was done re the duplication of the land line to Port Darwin. Tasmania and Queensland are dissatisfied with the arrangement.
