Dunedin, May 17. Tlie Star has received the following special message ; London. May 12.
With regard to the attempt to shoot William, Emperor of Germany, there is an intense felling of loyalty displayed in the letters of the Powers. May 15. The Australian cricketers are at Nottingham, and have met with a public reception and enthusiastic ovations. May IG.
Alarming riots have occurred in Lancashire. The starving operatives are burning the mills and residences. There has been a collision with the military, in which many were killed. A great many Russian privateers are preparing. Sydney, May 20.
The " Vagabond" has entered an action against Joseph Thompson, the bookmaker, for slander. Damages are claimed to the amount of L2OOO.
The Press cable tariff has been reduced to 75 per cent. The proposal to purchase the New Zealand and Tasmanian cables is undecided.
