ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sik. —lt is with great pleasure that J read your lidding arlicie on early closine in Saturday's issue ; hue 1 think, in fairness to the majority of assistants in thittown, you might allow me to say a few words. In your article, you seem to accuse them of complaining of an evil which cannot be avoided. Now, I contend, sir. that this evil of late shopping on a Saturday night oan be .avoided. ]f the public knew that the shops would close at 9, they could quite easily make their purchases before : therefore I consider this is an unnecessary evil, and every unnecessary evil, in my opinion, should be wiped off the face of any community where such exists.
I should like to say a few words concerning those loiters that you have lately received, easting scurrillous reflections on some of our townsmen. I think, sir. these gentlemen know very little about what they are talki-ig of ; and if they only knew how odious they mado themselves m the sieht of their fellow-men, they would desist from writing scandal in future. —I am, <£c. IIniAXITAS.
