MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Council wis held at the Council Chambers last evenintr. There were present His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Booth, Gibbs, Procter, Liddle, Spence, Familton. The minntes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Clerk read a copy of the annual return to the Government, showing that the amount of subsidy due for the year ended Slat March, 1879, would be L 2,138 3a. Mr. J. Johnston wrote applying for permission to erect a lamp-post for Mr. Robinson, dentist, Eden-street. Permission was granted. Permission was granted for the transfer of the following- leases of municipal sections :—Part of Reserve D from Mr. Wm. Copland to Mr. F. H. Townsend ; section 25, block 9, from Mr. F. H. Townsend to Mr. A. Tom 3; section 14, block 54, from Mr. John Johnston to Mr. C. G. Moore. Mr. S. Lintern applied for, and obtained, permission to remove some clay front section 8, block 64, and put it into a hole in the street. The lamplighter wrote drawing the attention of the Council to the necessity for obtaining some new kerosene lamps. The matter was referred to the Gas Committee. His Worship the Mayor made a lengthy explanation with regard to several matters on which he" had consulted the Government while in Wellington recently, amongst them being the subject of deductions from subsidies. On the motion of Councillor Procter, seconded by Councillor Gibbs, a vote of thanks was accorded to the Mayor for the manner in which he had carried out his mission to Wellington. Accounts to the amount of L 298 13» 3d were passed for payment. Councillor Liddle gave notice of the fallowing motion for next meeting:— " That wire and standards be purchased, and a belt of a chain, more or less, be fenced off" round the various reserves from time to time, such belts to be let for one crop of potatoes, thereafter to be well ploughed and harrowed, sown with grass seed, and planted with trees by the Corporation gardener as opportunity and seasons permit." The Council then adjourned.
