One of the men was identified as a resident in the Wairarapa, but has not-yet been arrested. A deputation of settlers from Manawatu waited upon the Premier and the Hon. Mr. Ballance to-day, and urged tli3 necessity for a railway line between the Hutt and Manawatti. The Government promised that the line should be surveyed without delay. Two racehorses, Kakapo and Ouida, are reported to have been poisoned at Castle Point, where they were to run. One was found dead in the stable; the other dropped down dead outside. A large number of claims have been pegged off i>n the line of the supposed reef, the Rivei'tou Prospecting Company, amongst others, having abandoned their old claim.
