At the Waste Lands Board a letter was lead from Mr. Yesey Stewart. He said he had made arrangements for a second party of special settlers, bat elwged Sir J. Vogel with factious opposition, with intent to obstruct the scheme. The Board referred the correspondence to the Government. April 17. Messrs. I-iask and Hamlin have addressed their constituents. Both dissented from Sir George Grey regarding the extension .of. £be franchise, as at present any
man who owned anything more than a carpet bag had a vote. Mr. Lusk stronglyopposed a tax on land. He thought that he would approve of a tax on income, if that income was derived from land, but a tax on acreage would be unfair. He believed if. Sir George Grey persisted in advocating these" meastres he would sap the foundation of his popularity. Such vindictive legislation would be found a mistake. Mr. Lusk said, after consideration he had decided to resign his seat. Votes of confidence in Messrs. Lusk and Hamlin were passed.
