This herd sprung from cows purchased at Awanina, !S7-5-7fj. The IFon. M. Holmes selected the original herd at a sale held by Messrs. Morton Brothers and Leach, of Mount Derrimnt, Victoria, sth November, ISC7. The selections of the Hon. M. Holmes at the above sale comprised the very best animals of the Jessamine, April Flower, and Farewell trihes ; among them was the celebrated Cow Jessamine 9th, that took no less than Seven First Frizes in Victoria. Her own sister Jessamine 13th, is dam of Mr. Craig's famous red Cow; Otago Jessamine 2nd. It would take too much space to raenS tion prizes awarded to the Waimotu Herd at various shows ; sulKce it to say that the Shorthorn Cup has been won two years in succession by Mr. Craig.
