OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Friday last, there being present— Messrs. Anderson (Chairman), Henderson (Treasurer), .Falconer, M'Uonahl, Marshall, Newlands, Darroch, Mitchell, Watson, Ross, and Russell.
On the motion of Air. Marshall, seoonded by Mr. Henderson, the minutes of last meet-; ing were adopted as read. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The advertising accounts submitted to the Finance Committee were passed for payment, a deduction being made in the case of the North Ottu/o Times. Mr. Darroch then moved, " That in future the advertisement be inserted in both paper*(Mail and Times) on alternate days for six days before each meeting," Seconded by Mr Marshall.
Mr. Mitchell moved as an amendment, "That they Ix 3 inserted for eight days." Seconded by Mr. Rees. —Two voted for the amendment and the rest for the motion, which was accordingly carried. Mr. i". K. Ovenden complained that the Board's Ranger had illegally seized his cow, and made an overcharge- of LI for her release. The seizure was considered legal, but Mr. Ross moved, and Mr. Marshall seconded, " That the whole of the release money (L2) be refunded,"
Mr. Watson-, moved as, an amendment, " That only LI '.be, refunded." Seconded by Mr. Newlands and "carried. The following .letters were then, considered : Ist. From Mr. James Little, regarding a road to his land in Block VIII.— Resolve- v that as soon as funds. arc available ti. ( matter will have attention. 2nd. From Mr. Burnett, Engineer Constructed Railways, re gravelling road to Goods Shed, Herbert—Letter received. 3rd. From Mr. Martin, n> proclamation of road from Malieno to Kakanui I'ort, as a County road.—Mr. Henderson moved, and Mr. Ross seconded, "That Messrs. Falconer, Mitchell, and the mover be appointed a deputation to wait on the County Council thereto."4th. From Captain Matheson, Secretary Kakanui Harbour Board, stating that the pinch leading to the wharf is under thecontrol of the Road Board.—Resolved that, the Clerk inform him that, at present, it in; part of a County road. sth. From the Under-Secretary, enclosing copies of the "Sheep and Fencing Bills,;' and asking the Board's opinion thereon.— Letter received.
(>th. From Mr. Paton, about reducing the grade of the pinch-on the road leading from his place to the Maheno road.—The members of the subdivision word authorised to expend L 8 on it. 7th. From Mr. Garrow, r<> distribution of Engineer's salary.—Agreed to. Sth. From the Treasury, advising the payment with the Bank of New Zealand, Oamaru, of the second instalment of subsidy. 9th. From Mr. >Sim, re repairing road in Block VII. and Vlll Mr. Henderson moved, and Mr. Russell seconded. "That tenders be invited for the contract."
Mr. Darroch moved, as an amendment, "That, for a month, no tenders be invited for the contracts on the hills in Sydney." Seconded by Mr. M'Donald.—Three voted for the amendment, and the rest for tlio motion, which was accordingly carried. Mr. Boss moved, and "Mr. Watsnii' souonded, " That tenders be invited for the' Copenauhmvt contrac's. Several accounts were passed for payment,, and the Board adjourned.
