OAMARU HOSPITAL.
Tlie usual monthly meting of the Committee of the above institution was la-id last evening iit the Secretary's office. There were pr. scut —M.-ssrs. T. H. Brown (President, in the chair), Shrimski, Headland. Mainland, Ti.wn.s-nd, Blaekburne, P.-it.-rson, Dunn, ami Churo . (S ercfary).
The mmives of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspond.-nee was approved. The r. port of the Visiting Committee was read and adopted as follows :--
In accordance vi'h the u-ual custom, your Visiting Committee have vi-ited the Hospial. finding everything in a clean and satis-faeto-v state.
There are at present in the Hospital 7 male patient- and 1 female patient, all of whom a"penr.;d to he progressing' favorably. Your Vi-iting Committee, acting on your recommendation, interviewed Mr. May, and we'e successful in obtaining the balance ..wing by him. We have also to report that the asphalting of the f-.otjiath between the Hospital and tli>- Fever Hospital has been completed to our satisfaction.
Your V.Mt ng Committee deemed it advisable to sell by auct on the standing crop of grass on the Ho-pital grounds, which rea is. d the sum of L 3.

A ]oi)L, r letter was read from the UnderSecretary with reference to the desirability of placing the management of hospitals in the Colony on some more satisfactory footing, and stating that the (Jovcrnment proposed, wherever possible, to place the hospitals of the large towns under the direct control of the municipalities, and to subsidise them to the extent of 20s. for ov.ry 20s. of subscriptions, and that as the remaining cost would fall on the borough funds, to make no deduction whatever from the subsidies.
Accounts amounting to L4l 4s. 9d. were passed for payment. The Secretary read a list of the subscriptions received since the last meeting, which were ordered to be acknowledged. The Treasurer's statement was read and adopted. Tne President reported that the deputation appointed to wait on Drs. De Lautour, Fleming, and Smith witli a view to urging upon them to reconsider their determination not to act as honorary medical attendants at the Hospital, had done so ; but had failed to induce them to alter their decisions. He was in a position to state that the medical officer was perfecting arrangements whereby the institution would be rendered independent of the assistance of the medical gentleiii'-n at present in Oamaru. The Visiting Committee was empowered to obtain assistance for the warder when it is found necessary.
Sever-il otiier matters having been dealt with, the meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman.
