ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
TO TIIE EDITOR OF TUB EVENINC MAI!,. Sir, —I percieve by ymir paper that next. Monday, the 18th instant, being St,. Patrick's Day, will he a bank holiday. J was not aware, before seeing this announcement, that the 18r.h of March was St. Patrick 'a Day. I had always been of the impression that the 17th was that anniversary ; but having the misfortune of being an Irishman (awl therefore knowing no better), must account for my ignorance 011 a subject on which others appear to be more correctly posted. Our four Oamaru Bank Managers could not, in their collective wisdom, be mistaken on such a subject—oh dear, no ! Not one of them is an Irishman, therefore t hey must be right in saying that the 18th is the day. Only Irishmen could make such a mistake as to think that the 17th was the anniversary of their patron saint ; but they must be excused for their ignorance, considering they are mere Irish, and know no better.—l am, Arc., HIIiERNJA.V. March 15.
