On an objection by the Iter. A. Gitibrd against the assessment of L~O on part of sections 27 and SI. block IV.. Oamaru district, the atnount was reduced to L"2O, and the nuiuse and glebe ordered to be entered on the roll for LSO. A reduction of acreage was made in Mr. A Sinclair's case, with a eonsequent reduction of valuation, amounting to L3S 10s. A reduction of acrea'io raid assessment by LI 2 v.-a-'i also made in thy case of Mr. J. C. Gilchrist. The Clerk to the Board appealed against the valuation in several instances as being too small in acreage andamonnt, and in each, ease the objections were upheld and the omissions ordered to be rectified. The first of the horses engaged in the forthcoming races arrived from IhmcJiu today, William having come to. Oamaru by the s.s. YVaitalii. VTa understand that Mr. Shalder's boxes at the race-course have been engaged for Kay's team, including Tcirsplcton and 'J.'ita'.iia, which will jjrobably arrive to-morrow evening, and for Ltinn's team, comprising Maritana and Merry Monarch, which will reach Oamaru this evening from Ohristehureh. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the North Otago Coursing Club will lie he'd on Thursday morning, at 11 o'clock, at tie Count}" Council Chambers.
The usual monthly meeting of the First Oamaru Permanent; Building Society and the South Otago Permanent Building Society will be held this evening, at the usual times ami places. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, before J. "\V. Humphrey, Esq, J.l'., John Young was lined 55., with the option of 12 hours' i:npriso;!K-ni, for being drunk and disorderly last evening inThamesstreet. The assault case —Amelia Burling v. Julia Paul—was further adjourned until Tuesday next. The deputation from the Municipal Council to the Harbour Board will be received at 10 a.m. to-morrow, in order not to interfere with a. meeting of the Committee of the Benevolent Society arranged to take place at 4 o'clock at the .Mechanics' Institute. The monthly meeting of che Committee of the North Otago Horticultural Society was held last evening at Albion House. There were present Messrs. Connell. President iin the chair) : Heywood. Paterson, Steward, Kidd, S;>ralt, Simpson, and Leigh (lion. Hoz.). The minutes of the hist meeting having been read and confirmed, it was decided to write to Mr. Stewart, of Christchinch, requesting him to act as a judge at the forthcoming show. Mr. Simpson was appointed to superintend the staging of exhibits. -A number of accounts were passed for payment. Some discussion took jjlace npon various matters, after which the meeting terminated with the usual compliment to the chairman.
The Philharmonic Society will meet for practice to-morrow evening, at the usual hour aucl place, >vhen, in addition to the selections from the oratorios, several glees will he rehearsed.
