NORTH OTAGO BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the jSF.O. Benovoleut .Society.took place Inst evening. Present—-Messrs. Neil Fleming (President).Konavne, Allen, Kerr, Greenfield, Steward. Richmond (Secretary), and Rev. A. B. Todd. After the disposal of routine business, Mr. Steward, explained the result of his interview* with the Hon. Mr. Larnnch, and the applications for the Secretary ship of the Society (throe in number)-were read. It was proposed by Mr. Steward and seconded by Mr. Greenfield, That Mr. Hardy be Secretary." An amendment was proposed by Mr. Ronayne and seconded by Mr. Ken-, " That Mr. Hesketh be appointed to that office." Considerable discussion ensued, and it was resolved," That the meeting at its rising do adjourn -till Wednesday, at 4 p.m., at the Mechanics' Institute, for the further consideration of the matter." A report from the Visiting Committee, giving full particulars of the cases of necessity in receipt of assistance from the Society, was read and adopted. Messrs. Ronayne and Allen were appointed a Visbing Committee for the present month. The Barrack Master's report, was read and adopted.: A. letter from Mr. Church in reference to a case of distress was referred to the Visiting Committee, with power to act. Rules for the conduct of the Servants' Home, submitted to the Committee by the Barrack Master, were, with slight alterations, adopted and ordered to be inserted in the Society's pamphlet. The Visiting Committee were empowered to call for tenders for six months' supplies, the same to be sent in for consideration at the next monthly meeting of the Society. A vote of thanks to the President terminated the proceedings.
