OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.
KATEPA YERS' MEETING. A meeting of the ratepayers was held on Friday, January 25th, relative to the closing of road lines in Blopks VI and VIII. Mr. Anderson, Chairman of the Road Board, presided, On the motion of Mr. M'Donald, seconded by Mr. Russell, it was decided to close roads and forward the plans to the County Council. EOAD BOA n MEETING. A meeting of the Road Board was held immediately after, at which were present : Messrs. Anderson (chair), Henderson (Treasurer), M'Donald, Marshall, Newlands, Koss, Watson. Russell, Darrocli, and Mitchell. The minutes of the previous meeting u-eiv, .on the ii)i>t'"tl <>f Ross, seconded by Mr. Falconer, adopted as read. The following letters wijve read : 1. From the" County Council, asking what roads the B'ard would like the Council to take over. Mr. Henderson moved, and Mr. Marshall seconded, that none of the roads be given ovei\ 2. From the Kakanni Board, regarding an alteration of the northern boundary of the Sydney sub-division, and the construction" of the proposed Island Stream Road. Mr. falconer moved, and Mr. Darrocli seconded, that the proposal be carried out, provided the post to this Boai'd does not exceed L 2.00 for land and construction, and that the old road be not closed. i
Mr. Henderson moved as an amendment, that this Board take no action in the matter, seconded by Mr. Russell, and carried by a majority of one. 3. From the Enginepp, with a reduced drawing of Contract 60, but urging the Board to adopt the original. Mr. Watson moved, and Mr. Ross seconded, that the original plaa be carried put or non#, Mr. M'Ponald moved as an amendment, tliat ifc b.e not .carried out at present, seconded- by Mr, Falconer, and carried.
4. From the County Council, intimating that LlO had been voted towards the Ranger's salary. The clerk was instructed to draw the attention of the Council to ■a resolution passed at one of its meetings, agreeing to pay half the salaries of Rangers in Road Districts. 5. From the Engineer, stating that the road at Section 9 Block VIII has been fenced wrong. Mr. Darroch moved, that the Board offer no objection to the road remaining where it is, provided the parties interested pay all costs of conveyance, &c, seconded by Mr. M'Donald. Mr. Falconer reported that the Chelsea members had accepted the tender cf Robertson and Biggar, L 132 ss. 2d., for Contract 58.
Mr. Falconer moved, that the Engineer be instructed to prepare plans, &c, for continuation of the Kakanui Port Road, seconded by Mr. Mitchell. The County Valuation List for the Riding was then considered, when it was unanimously decided to object to it as a whole. Messrs. Falconer, Anderspn, Henderson, and Ross, were appointed to attend the Assessment Court.
