DISASTROUS FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

A disastrous fire occurred in Newton this morning, at half-past two o'clock. The fire originated in the house of uue Depine, a shoemaker, why rescued his family with difficulty. The tire rapidly extended to the Rising Sun Hotel adjoining, and to other buildings. Several houses on the opposite side of the street were much damaged, the high wind driving the fire across. The origin oi the lire is unknown, The property destroyed consists of the Rising Sun Hotel, insured for L4OO in the South British, L 250 in the Norwich Union ; furniture and stock for L3OO in the New Zealand office. A break with aeven of the salvage corps of the Fire Brigade was returning from the fire, when the vehicle capsized, and one of the occupants named Goakin fell on his head, sustaining concussion of the brain. He was removed to the hospital. It is feared that his injuries will prove ff\tal. The total losses at the fire were : South British, LIOOO ; New Zealand, L 350 ; Imperial, L2OO ; Union, L2OO ; Standard, LS(0; -Royal, L7los.
