January 9. The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association report the Assyrian, from Lacepcde Island to the United Kingdom, having put into Algoa Bay in distress. The Haddington, from Melbourne to London, came into collision with the Falcon, and the former was towed into port slightly injured. Arrived at London —Chimborazo, from Adelaide. The Ann Armitage, which, left Lacepede Island on Ist October for the United
Kingdom for orders, sprang a leak, and put into Cape Town. The Premier, from Wellington, Spirit of Dawn, from Auckland, and the Portia, from Adelaide, put into Rio Janeiro in distress on September 6th, and sailed again for London early in December.
Arrived—Arawata, with the Suez mall, at daylight this morning. She brings fifty-five saloon and fifty-three steerage passengers, four boxes of gold (value, L 20,000), and 450 tons for all ports. She had mostly strong southerly winds, with a heavy sea and squally weather. She sailed for Dunedin at 9 a.m., after discharging cargo. Passengers ■ for Lyttelton—Mr. Chisholm and two sons, Mr. Hutchieson, and nine steerage. Eightyfour tons of cargo.
