January 9. Information was received this afternoon from Adelaide that the Port Darwin line is down, north of Alice Springs. The cricket match. Canterbury v. Wellington, was played to-day. The weather was very line, "but the attendance was moderate. The wickets were pitched at 10.30. At 1 o'clock, four Canterbnry men were out for 133, Ashby scoring 44, and 2seilsou 28. 103 runs were made before all were out. Wellington made only 22 in the first innings, and being sent in again, played until time was called with 5 out for 42. The play of the Canterbury team was remarkably good in field and with bat. The fielding of the Wellington team was very loose, The Canterbury men left in the Ladybird soon after the sumps were drawn.
