"Augur," writing in the Australasian of the 4th of August lust, says : "Several more thoroughbred »ircs have been advertised, and, if placed according to merit, Panic certainly deserves the premier position, for there can be no disputing that ho is the most useful of all the sires in Australia ; and being so, the question arises, Is he not the most valuable ? He may not have produced such brilliant horses as some of our crack sires, but for the production of every description, he has no e<jual. Nimblcfoot, Strop, Melbourne, Adelaide, and others, have placed many a good flat raco to his credit; Prodigious, Lone Hand, Saucepan, Quicksilver, and many others, have shown us what his descendants arc capablo of over a country ; and for general purposes they are unsurpassed, as they inherit all their sire's soundness of wind and limb. Mr. fait has often told me that the best coiistitutioiicd horse he ever owned was Melbourne ; and this being one of the chief characteristics of Panic's stock, he is well worthy of liberal patronage from breeders."
