There was only a moderate attendance at the second day's racing of the Spring Meeting, which was held on the Forbury Park Course to-day, although the weather was all that could be desired. WAITAKI ATHLETIC CLUB'S SPORTS. :The following is the conclusion of our report of the above sports ; the lateness of the time at which they were finished having precluded the , possibility of our giving the whole of the .events in last night's issue : Throwing the Cricket Bali. —Prize, Silver Pencil Case. Three competed for the prize in this event, -Kidd proving the winner with a throw of 87yds. Ift: Fenwick was second, having been beaten by about 2yds. Hurdle Race (120 vards, 10 flights).— Prize, Electro-plated Inkstand. Walls, Bennett, Rhodes, and Pickett were the only competitors. The contest during the latter portion of the race lay between Walls and Bennett, the former being the winner. Veterans Race (open to all comers)—
Prize, Glass Beer Jug. There were no competitors for the prize given in this event. One Mile Walking Match —Prize, Breakfast Cruet. This was one of the most interesting j events of the meeting. The contest lay ' between Gow and Walls, the only other ; competitor (Bhtckburn) being very quickly ! disposed of. .for some time W alls looked i like winning, but when near the finish
Gow- gradually drew ahead, and won by some '2O yaids. .Time, Oriiin. 31secs. ■ Ferens, A ;Picket*t) and; M'Glashan were the only pompetitors in this event, which was a very well-conteSted one. Ferens was the winner, with. Pickett a good second. '
Consolation Race (150 Yards.—Prize, Whip and Spurs. Kidd, Caverhill, and Pickett started for this event, the first-named winning pretty easily, but was disqualified in consequence of his having won the prize for throwing the cricket ball, and the prize awarded to Caverhill. Champion Cup. When the scores were made up to ascertain the winner of the Champion Cup, it was found that the much-coveted prize had been won by Ferens, with nine points, Walls being next on ihe list with eight. Presentation of Prizes. Mr. O'Meagher, as President of the Society, having addressed the assemblage briefly, Mrs. O'Meagher presented the various prizes to the successful competitors. Three cheers having been given for Mrs. 'O'Meagher, the proceedings were brought to a close.
