AUCKLAND. November 30,

The installation of Bro. F. Whitaker as P.M.G., Scottish Constitution, and of Bro. G. S. Graham, as P.G., English Constitution, took place at the Choral iHall in presence of a splendid assemblage of Masons. The day was observed as a holiday by the banks and public offices, and most private business places were closed.

WELLINGTON. November 30.

It is currently reported that Mr. Henry Bunny, M.H.R., is to be appointed Commissioner of Railways.

Mr. Anderson, late mate of the steamer Taranalu, has been appointed to the command of the screw steamer Grafton, now on her way from Sydney to Wellington. A report has been drawn up by the Re-organisation Committee of the City Council, and recommends the dismissal of all the Corporation servants but two, and shows how L3OOO per annum can be saved. The report was adopted. The'number of births, marriages, and deaths registered during the month in Wellington was—births, 80 ; marriage certificates issued. 24 ; deaths, 30. Subscriptions towards the Indian Famine Fund are still coming in ; probably over L2OOO will be collected here.

BALCLIJTHA. December 1. A four-roomed dwelling-house, belonging to H. Clark, gardener, Balclutha, with the whole of the furniture, was burned yesterday morning. Mr. Clark was from home ; and Mrs. Clark was severely cut by the explosion of ;i flask of gunpowder which was in the house. The origin of the lire is unknown, but, to all appearance, was accidental. The building was insured for L 245 in the Victoria office.
