Brown (for Mr. Stout) moved for an address to place on the estimates L3OO to partially rt.coup theDuuedin City Council for txpeiises incurred in drafting the Municipal Corporation Bill of last session. Mr. Larnach stated that the Government must oppose the motion, as the Corporation had not been asked to prepare the Bill. After some discussion, the motion was negatived.

M r . Lamach Baid that the Government could only say that they were alive to the necessity for this and similar works, but all they would promise was that during the recess they would carefully consider how best such works could be done. They would give their best attention to this. After further discussion, the motion was agreed to. The debate on Mr. Murray's motion for endowments to counties was resumed. Mr. Gisborne thought the endowments should be from lands within the county endowed. He moved, therefore, the omission of the words "where possible" in the first resolution.

This was agreed to—the clause being altered so that endowment should be from lands within the provincial district. The discussion on the second resolution was interrupted by the usual dinner adjournment. A great amount of general business was got through during the evening sitting.
