(from the press agencv.) WELLINGTON. November 19. Mr. George Elliott Barton has withdrawn from his cantidature for the Mayoralty in consequence of being counsel in several cases in which the Corporation are concerned, and in some of which he would have to appear against himself. Hone Nahe having been appointed a Minister, Mi\ Grace, junior, lias been appointed interpreter to the Executive. Nahe sitting on the Ministerial benches, not with the other native representatives, necessitates another interpreter. AUCKLAND. November 19. Henry S. Meyers, merchant, has been committed for trial on three charges of fraud in connection with his insolvency. The prosecutors stated that another charge would be preferred in the Supreme Court. Defence was reserved. Mr. Firth has returned from distributing salmon. 50,000 have been successfully deposited in the upper reach of the Wairoa.

BALCLUTHA. 1 November 19. The river is heavily flooded, and has commenced to overflow its banks. It is still rising, but no damage to the town is anticipated. RIVERTON. November 19. At a public meeting held here at noon to-day, and which was well attended, a resolution was passed to support the present Ministry. Mr. Hodgkinson was complimented, for the conscientious support of his party past and present. In the event of Sir George Grey's Ministry being defeated, the meeting considered a dissolution necessary. ■ ♦ LYTTELTON. November 19. The steamer Gazelle has returned from the Auckland Is'ands. She did not recover the gold from the wreck of the General Grant, and has abandoned the search.
