November 15. A la-gely-attended public meeting was held at the Provincial Hall last night to consider the political situation: the Mayor in the chair. The following resolutions were carried almost unanimously—"That, in the opinion of this meeting, the interests both of the Colony and the district would be best served by Parliament giving Sir George Grey a fair trial." " That, in the opinion of this meeting, in the present disorganised state i'f the House of Representatives, owing to parties bting so evenly balanced, an appeal to the people is the only satisfactory and constitutional courc-e." Copies of the resolutions art-, to be forwarded to the city representatives and Sir George Grey. It was moved, as an addition to the first resolution, that the words "So that the charge made against the Government may be proved or disproved this session." Ihii was rejected, only six supporting it. * : DUNEDIN. November 15. This month's Jurist states that the A ppeal Court case, Eliott v. Brenchley, was settled some time ago by the payment of the debt and costs, and that some other cases which have gone to the Court of Appeal have also been settled, and are being argued in a friendly manner by arrangements between the solicitors. . Further experiments have been made in Dune lin with dynamite, the result showing that it is cheaper than ordinary blasting powder. The Anglican Synod of this Diocese his expressed a wish that Bishop Neville should attend the Pan-Anglican Synod.
