RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before T. \V. Parkkr, Esq., R.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY.
Denis Heffernan and John Wilson, for being drunk and disorderly on Saturday, were fined ss. each.
John Hagan, charged with being drunk and disorderly yesterday, was fined 10a.
\yiFE DESERTION. John Coglan was brought, on a warrant from Charleston, charged with having on the 25th December, 1875, deserted his wife and five children, residing atCharloßtown, West Coast. Accused admitted that lie was the man referred to in the warrant, but said that he had sent his wife some money about a fortnight ago. Sub-Inspector Smith said that tho accused had been arrested elsewhere several times on a similar chrrgo, and had promised to return to his family, but had failed to do so. The police were continually receiving telegrams from his wile about him, saying they wore in great need of money. He would ask that tho accused be remanded to Charleston.
The evidence of Sergeant Boallie having bton taken, his Worship said that if the accused could prove that ho had sent money to his wife he would not remand him to Charleston at present, but would see what could bo dono in tho matter.
Accused said he had sent the money, but had not yet received any acknowledgment.
Sub-Inspector Smith said that if his Worship would remand tlio case until to-morrow, he would telegraph to Charleston, and ascertain whether there was any truth in the accused's statement.
The case was thou remanded until tomorrow.
