HISLOP VERSUS MACKAY.
♦ | [BY TKLI'CR.U'H, FROM OUR OWN CORRE- ! SroNDENT.] Wellington, October 16. Mr. James Mackay appeared on summons at the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, for assaulting and beating Mr. T. W. "HKIop£,M,H.R. Mr - Scout apeared for and Dr. Buller for the defendant. Mr. Mnckay appeared within'the bar. Dr. Buller applied for an adjournment on the ground that the defendant'*.witnesses were not
ready, as he had. not had time to. procure their attendance. Mr. Stout objected to, this on'the ground of inconvenience, and referred-'to a paragraph in the Times, "ivin" a garbled 'account of the assault. He said this had evidently been written at Mr. Mackay's suggestion. Dr. Mtiller said the defendant would admit the assault "Mr. Stout then said that the complainant required him to be bound over to keep the. pence in his own recognizance. Dr. Buller. asgucd that this was outside the record. After some argument Mr. Stout consented to adjourn on condition that Mr. Mackay enter into Ins own recognisance to appear at eleven o clock to.-uuwraw,
